Maria Robles is awarded research grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Inititiative

Collaborative project in Neurodegeneration Challenge Network

21.02.2024

Chronobiologists Maria Robles (project A32, Institute for Medical Psychology, LMU Munich) and Angel Barco Guerrero (Institute for Neurosciences, University Miguel Hernández, Alicante, Spain) are recipients of a Collaborative Pairs Pilot Project Award from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI): Neurodegeneration Challenge Network (NDCN) Projects. Theirs is one of only 64 awards worldwide.

Their proposed project, Sleep and Circadian-Driven Nuclear Multi-Omics Dynamics, aims to unravel the role of homeostatic sleep and circadian-driven processes in nuclear function of diverse mouse brain cell populations combining cell-type specific nuclear isolation with deep sequencing and quantitative proteomics.

The CZI award amounts to $200,000 for an initial 18 months. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was co-founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, and addresses societal challenges in science, education and community. CZI’s Neurodegeneration Challenge Network brings together experimental scientists from diverse research fields, along with computational biologists and physicians, to accelerate fundamental neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease research that leads to an in-depth understanding of healthy brain function and the development of new strategies for treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative disorders.
