Nicolai Siegel awarded ERC Consolidator Grant

Investigating the variability of pathogens

17.03.2022

"In his project switchDecoding, Nicolai Siegel plans to elucidate the mechanisms that control variability in pathogen populations. To this end, he will use Trypanosoma brucei, a parasite responsible for sleeping sickness in Sub-Saharan Africa as a model. Here, he will investigate how the parasite repeatedly alters its surface proteins – so-called antigens – to evade the immune defenses of its host."

See more details in the LMU press release from March 2022.

Nicolai Siegel (project A33) was also awarded an ERC starting grant in 2016.
